Gregg Fleishman Studio - Gallery Two presents the painting works of CHRIS SAMP. Samp describes his work as a form of " Symbolistic abstraction toward a kind of elemental representation through spherical metaphor". There is a deep respect and reference to indigenous peoples' animist spiritual beliefs and cosmological thought. In these paintings, this is most evident through the titling of the pieces, many of which use words from the Lahk'ota language of the Lakota Sioux Nation from the Great Plains regions of North America. The artist finds a "simple but profound root meaning of these words within the context of a spiritual interrelationship within the natural world". Chris Samp's paintings in this show are primarily acrylic on canvas and accent geometry, often a square within a square with a unique treatment of concentric circle forms and brilliant flowing color.
