Mayan Warrior “Tower”

This structure was designed by Gregg Fleishman for the Mayan Warrior x StrangerThan fundraiser event in Los Angeles at Grand Park / City Hall in 2024. It utilizes the cube octahedron, also known as the vector equilibrium, as its elemental polyhedric formula. Originally designed as one structure with 3 climbing stories, multiple observation decks, and a pyramidal lookout tower.

 

The Mayan Tower, consisting of a Cube Octahedral matrix capable of infinite expansion, is here assembled as an elaborate tower with multiple observation balconies. Large square panels and small square panels provide the structural frame, and triangular panels fill in the rest and provide stiffness. The horizontal square panels are the floors and ceilings while the vertical square panels are perforated for passage. Triangular panels are decorative screens or stairs moving up or down the framework. In a pyramidal assembly these stairs spiral upwardly, making triangular corkscrew like corridors, opening up to the various lookout points.
